As the winter season approaches, we want to take a moment to send you our warmest wishes for a safe and healthy season ahead. Winter can be a beautiful time of year, but it also brings with it an increased risk of illnesses such as the flu, colds, and other respiratory infections. To help you stay well during the colder months, we’d like to share some important tips to keep you and your loved ones healthy.
Warm Tips
1.Get Your Flu Vaccine
The flu vaccine is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and others from influenza. If you haven’t already received your flu shot, we encourage you to book an appointment with us as soon as possible.
2. Keep Your Home Warm and Dry
A warm and dry home can help prevent cold-related illnesses and reduce the risk of respiratory problems. Ensure your heating system is working well and consider using a dehumidifier if needed to keep dampness at bay. The ideal humidity indoors is around 50%.
3. Practice Good Hand Hygiene
Washing your hands regularly with soap and water, or using hand sanitizer, can help prevent the spread of germs. Make it a habit, especially after coughing, sneezing, or being in public spaces.
4.Maintain a Healthy Diet and Stay Active
Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats, while also prioritizing hydration and including foods rich in vitamins C and D, which can boost your immune system. Regular exercise, even indoors, can also help keep your body strong and resilient.
We’re here to support you !
5.Stop Smoking
Smoking weakens your immunity, making infections harder to fight. The toxins in cigarettes damage your lungs' defenses, increasing risks of bronchitis, pneumonia and slower recovery.

Good news:
Your body begins healing within hours of quitting. Immune function improves in weeks, lowering infection risks.
Quitting is tough, but you're not alone. We provide free support and proven strategies to help you succeed.

6. Seek Medical Advice if Needed
If you experience any severe or unusual symptoms—such as difficulty breathing, a high fever that doesn’t subside, or persistent worsening of your condition—please don’t hesitate to contact us right away. Your health and well-being are our top priority, and we’re here to help you get the care you need as quickly as possible.
7. Stay Home and Rest if you're Unwell
If you're feeling unwell, rest at home, stay hydrated, and give your body time to recover. Most common winter illnesses like colds or mild flu resolve on their own within days. Stay calm—most people recover fully without complications. Focus on fluids, nutrition, and sleep to support your immune system.
8.Flu and cold self-tests
If you suspect you may have flu or covid-19, we encourage you to perform self-testing for both COVID-19 and the flu to help quickly identify any potential illnesses. Testing kits are available at our pharmacy, and you can purchase them for use at home.If the flu is confirmed through the test, you are welcomed to contact the clinic to discuss whether Tamiflu (an antiviral medication) is suitable for your treatment. Our healthcare team can help determine if it’s appropriate based on your symptoms and health history.
9.Reminder for Patients with chronic respiratory illnesses, such as COPD or Asthma:
-
Regular Use of Inhalers: Please ensure you are using your inhalers as directed by your healthcare provider, even when you’re feeling well. Consistent use helps prevent flare-ups and keeps your symptoms under control.
-
Back-Up Medications: We recommend keeping a back-pocket antibiotic and prednisone at home, as directed by your doctor. These medications can be vital in managing any infections or exacerbations that may occur during the winter months. If you experience worsening symptoms such as increased shortness of breath, cough, or wheezing, please start these medications immediately and contact our clinic for further guidance.
-
Monitor Your Symptoms: Pay close attention to any changes in your breathing or overall health, especially if you catch a cold or experience changes in weather. Early intervention can make a significant difference in preventing severe flare-ups.
